Inauguration of Insurance Scheme :

An organization from Dubai “Friends of Kerala” donated the insurance premium of Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Beema Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Beema Yojana schemes for five hundred persons living in tribal hamlets. Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission identified the beneficiaries from four hamlets of Sholayur Panchayath and enrolled them into the scheme. The first three beneficiaries of the scheme were handed the premium certificates by Sri Murali Mohan Nayar, a representative of Friends of Kerala at a function held at Vechapathi on 21st August 2016.The remaining beneficiaries are being enrolled into the scheme.


Sewa Internship programme started :

An internship programme for students from USA and Canada was envisaged last year by members of Kerala Hindus of North America onthe initiative of Sri Vinod Varapravan from Canada . The first intern was Sri Chetan Nambiar from Ohio, USA who was into his 12th Standard in school. He was in Attappady from 12th July to 3rd August 2016.He was given the Vechapathi village in Sholayur Panchayat for his Sewa internship work. The internship involves getting to know the living conditions of the tribal people, understanding their problems, trying to find solutions in collaboration with the agency viz. Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission. During his internship Chetan Nambiar could identify several developmental issues which bothered the people in Vechapathi village. Multispecialty medical camp held on 9th October 2016 :

A Multispecialty camp was organized on 9th October 2016 at Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission hospital. 11 specialist doctors participated in the camp and provided free treatment to the patients. 465 patients attended the camp. Doctors who participated are Dr.N.Lalitha( Gynaecology), Dr.Sunitha Muralidharan ( Gynaecology), Dr.Sethulakshmi ( Gynaecology), Dr.Sethumadhavan ( General Surgery), Dr.Arun P ( ENT), Dr.Mahesh Krishnan ( Orthopedics), Dr.Preetha Unni (Dermatology), Dr.B.Gopal ( General Medicine),Dr.Narayanan V( Pediatrics) and Dr.P.R.Varsha ( Dental). Many patients were selected for surgical treatment at the hospital.


Diabetes Camp held on 18th December 2016 :

A specialty camp for diabetes patients was held on 18th December at Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission hospital. The camp was held with financial support from Rotary Club of Coimbatore Central. Dr.Prakash V.K., Dr.K.Suresh and Dr.Muralikrishnan were the diabetologists who offered free treatment to the patients.85 patients attended the camp. The doctors gave Diabetes education talk for the patients and responded to their queries. Detailed evaluation of the patients was done with blood tests, ECG and other investigations. Screening for eye problems in Diabetes was done with the help of Lotus Eye hospital, Coimbatore.


Sant Eshwer Award Presented to Mission :

Sant Eshwer Foundation, New Delhi awarded the Sant Eshwer Sewa Samman to Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission for its work for tribal welfare. The award was presented to the mission on 14th November 2016 at a function held at New Delhi by Srimathi Sumitra Mahajan, Hon’ble Speaker of Lok Sabha. The award carried a prize money of Rs.One lakh and a Citation.The award was received by the trust President Sri V.P.S.Menon and Secretary Sri C.Sreedharan.


Surgeries started at our operation theatre :

The operation theatre at our hospital started functioning from October. The first three surgeries were performed on 12th October 2016. Dr.Senthilkumar ( MS, MCh) performed the surgeries and Dr.Bharathi Mohan was the anaesthesiologist. Surgeries were done free of cost to tribal patients and at affordable cost to other patients. Elective surgeries are being done regularly now since then.


Skill development Centre Annual day :

Annual day of Sri Balachandran Smaraka Janavaibhava Kendram ( Skill Development Centre) was celebrated on 22nd October 2016. The centre was inaugurated on 18th October 2015 in fond memory of Sri M.Balachandran our late trustee who was actively involved in development of human resources among tribal women and youth. The Annual day was inaugurated by Sri Mayilsami, MD of mm Gears and Past President, Rotary club of Coimbatore Sai City.Sri V.P.S.Menon, President of Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission presided over the meeting. Present President of the club Sri Mohanakrishnan offered felicitations. All trainees and alumnus participated in the annual day celebrations. The centre is run with financial help from Rotary club of Coimbatore Sai City.


Swami Vivekananda Jayanthi :

On 13th January 2017, Swami Vivekananda Jayanthi was celebrated by the mission. Sri A.Gopalakrishnan Organizing Secretary of All India Seema Kalyan Manch delivered Vivekananda Jayanthi address. About 75 volunteers of Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission participated in the celebrations.


Onam Kit distribution :

Members of Coimbatore Nair Samajam distributed Onam kits to fifty five families of Thadikkundu tribal hamlet in Attappady on 12th September 2016. The village is deep inside the forest near Silent Valley National Park. The kits contained new clothes and provisions.
